I’ve started a typeface based on the zulu micro-project I did a while back. A lot of students design display faces, and while that’s great I think that it can be far too easy to take a face and isolate it to one application. Yes it may get you through a project, but a good typeface should surely be able to lend itself to other implementation.
It’s coming on really nicely, with the entire uppercase complete to a draft standard and some of the lowercase have been started. I’ve learnt a lot from just doing it. The letter ‘S’ was the hardest. Those curves aint easy!
My fav letters are A,B, F,G, M and Q.
I’m using this post as a test bed for the style of display. I saw it on another site and it looked hot so I’ve tried it myself. I think it has a certain application, but could be overdone easily.
