Why I started this blog

Ive wanted for ages to write a decent blog that others would want to follow. I’ve never had the time to write a personal blog about something that interests me. I know that it would devour every free second I have. Thats why I got so addicted to twitter (which coincidentally gets reposted onto this tumblr) because it offered a nice short way to get thoughts etc. out there. Now that I have my iPhone it has become even easier to keep my digital life in sync with my physical life which is great and could make my productivity very efficient.

Now last week I got a ‘bollocking’ (in his own words) from one of my tutors because I dont reflect enough on my design work (I’m making the big assumption that if you’re reading this then you know something about me or your here to assess my work). He mentioned that I could do it online via a blog. Sounds really geeky, but I tried annotation for a brief period last year. I would attempt to get my sketchbook out on the train, find some pens and write away. Sounds easy; the trains got worse! They got taken over, condensed the amount of carriages and consequently I was left standing up or having my personal space violated by other people. Not the greatest environment for note-taking.

Then I had my iPhone and started writing notes, emailing and generally wasting time on the train, when David Os said I should do a blog it sort of clicked to find a nice online platform for reflection. Tumblr isnt a microblog, I have twitter (which I love) for that, and that’s really personal; but its not a monster either, I dabbled with Wordpress and remember how hard the upkeep was and how much of a geek it turns you into. Blogger (although the love-child of Google) is just not pretty enough and has lousy integration options). I wanted a platform that was easy to use, nicely laid out, legible and did all the hard work for me (resizing of images etc); hello tumblr.

This diary will be a professional journal of my design education/career, where I shall reflect on projects. It wont be word-perfect, there will be mistakes in my grammar, but I need to do this. Im hoping because that because its about something genuine it wont make me too geeky.

From the desk of Mr. Monk I'm a twenty-something creative type. This is my online journal in which I collect and share links, images, thoughts and sometimes reflect on current work.
